Coach pathways

It is important for coaches to recognise that there is a pathway for their ongoing development and involvement as coaches. The coach levels described in this section outline the pathway that exists in Australia for coaches.

Club Coach

This is the entry level Coach Course to the National Coach Accreditation Scheme with the Australian Sports Commission. These courses are run by the Member Bodies of SA (Australian Clay Target Association, Pistol Australia, Target Rifle Australia, National Rifle Association Australia, and Sporting Clays Australia). For further information on the next course, contact your National Coaching Director.

To become accredited as a Club Coach, it is necessary to demonstrate your coaching skills to an assigned Competition Coach or a highly experienced Club Coach. This will be assessed by another coach, who has undertaken training in Assessor Skills.

Re-accreditation is necessary every 4 years. For further information regarding this see the Coach Re-accreditation section. It is possible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning

Competition Coach

This level is for Club Coaches who are ready to take the next step. The content focuses more on competition preparation and readiness, training schedules to reach competitive goals, and advanced level shooting skills.

These Courses are run by the Member Bodies – see your National Coaching Director for more information. As for the Club Coach accreditation, it is necessary to demonstrate your coaching skills to a coach who has undertaken Assessment Training.

Re-accreditation is necessary every 4 years. For further information regarding this see the Coach Re-accreditation section. It is possible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.
