Shooting Australia Statement - Michael Diamond
Media Releases | Thursday, Jun 30, 2016
Shooting Australia has determined that Michael Diamond is ineligible for nomination to the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) for selection to the 2016 Australian Olympic Team.
Shooting Australia arrived at its position after reviewing the AOC's nomination and selection criteria, and today informed Michael Diamond of its final position regarding his ineligibility for nomination to compete for Australia in Rio next month.
The AOC provided Michael Diamond with an opportunity to present at its Executive meeting today and supports Shooting Australia’s decision not to nominate Mr Diamond.
Shooting Australia has been in regular contact with Michael throughout this process and will continue to offer him support.
"This is an extremely difficult time for Michael, and Shooting Australia will continue to be there for him as he needs,” said Shooting Australia CEO Damien Marangon.
The Shooting Australia selection committee will nominate its Men’s Trap athletes to the AOC prior to the 4th of July deadline.
Michael has a further right of appeal so no further comments will be made on the matter at this time.
